We all know those life stories
where people have incurable diseases and we think: „Poor guys... I wouldn’t
want to be in their shoes...” or even more often „This can’t just happen to
me!”
We can’t really
understand how it is to plan a new chemotherapy session when you actually
wanted to plan a precious event of your life, like a wedding, for example.
Or how it is to wonder
if you’ll still be alive next year instead of dreaming and planning the next
vacation with your sweetheart.
Or how it is to count down
the days of your life when it’s already too late for you, instead of enjoying
the growth and development of your little baby.
It all starts with a
random pain and a X-ray or with a routine blood test. You expect the results to
be ok. But that’s exactly when your life begins to fall apart. In the most unexpected
moment. When you thought that your happiness could not break all over again.
That’s the moment when
all the random and common activities you ever had feel like the last grain of
sand from a clepsydra.
It is then when you begin to love the cold
rain you used to hate, or tolerate the people you used to consider unpleasant,
or even to eat gladly that one dish you used to refuse from your mom’s menu.
„This can’t happen to me”
it’s a sentence we need to erase from our mind.
So let’s do ourselves
and our family a big favour, like going to the doctor on a regular basis. To
check up once in a while. We might „just” give ourselves a chance to a
healthier longer and, why not, a happier life.
Because this CAN happen
to anyone of us. Sad, but true...
